Mihai Viteazul was ruler of Tara Romaneasca (Romanian Country), the one who first united the three Romanian provinces (Romanian Country, Moldova and Transylvania) in 1600.

The statue is located in the middle of the square with the same name, is surrounded by a small triangular park with benches and green spaces.
