Lucian Blaga Library in Cluj Napoca was founded in 1872 and inaugurated in 1909 to the present location.
In 1922 occurred the most important and valuable donation, that of the Moldavian scholar Gheorghe Sion, from 1922-1923, not so much by its number (about 4.500 volumes), as the value of its collections of books, magazines, manuscripts, prints, paintings, photographs, maps, coins and medals etc.
Until 2000 all publications throughout the network of libraries, branches and the central unit amounted to approximately 3.000.000 volumes, of which 500.000 regular volumes. B.C.U. fund’s collections implies publications and materials to support academic performance of specialties provided by the “Babes-Bolyai University” in Cluj-Napoca, constantly adapting to modern educational requirements. Funds are available in the library’s 55 reading rooms with a capacity of over 2.100 seats, both in the central building and in subsidiary libraries.
